MUSIC MINISTRY

Zion offers a diverse Music Ministry which involves all ages. Choirs, handbells, and seasonal music are highlights of this ministry.

The gospels of Matthew (26:30) and Mark (14:26) state that Jesus sang a hymn with his disciples immediately before his betrayal. The apostle Paul in the book of Ephesians (5:19) exhorted the church at Ephesus to speak to each other "in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord."

Music is a big part of the worship experience at Zion. Hymns are sung, psalms are vocalized and spiritual songs are uplifted to praise God. Under the direction of Camille Jones, Zion's Music Director, our varied musical programs will help you fully enjoy the worship experience. Ms. Jones often arranges musical guest appearances during worship on special Sundays. From small instrumental ensembles to resident and visiting vocalists, Zion's musical presentations enhance your worship experience.

Throughout the year, Zion offers selected music programs for various ages including pre-school and youth. Vacation Bible school and selected Sunday school lessons inspire musical presentations. We have various special music performances throughout the year. Zion's Christmas Cantata is scheduled for Sunday, December 6, 2009 during a special 10:30 a.m. worship service. Our choir also renders music for Easter Services, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and each Sunday. Our Praise Singers: Carol Nordquist, Paula Prosser and Darlene Weight, are a trio of ladies that presents anthems for special services as well as each Sunday morning at the 8:15 a.m. service. The Praise Singers have also traveled to many nursing homes and occasionally visited and sung to cancer patients at Palmetto Richland Hospital.

ZION | NOIZ - Zion's Bell Choir
"Make a joyful noise unto God, all ye lands: Sing forth the honour of his name: make his praise glorious." (Psalms 66:1-2)

ZION|NOIZ makes a joyful noise for God, bringing heaven’s bells a little closer to earth. This group of talented and dedicated musicians, directed by Michael Kohn, adds a level of celebration to worship that enhances your walk with God. Our enthusiastic bell team performs during special worship services throughout the year and occasionally during weekly worship.

Rehearsals during the school year typically take place on Wednesdays from 6:00-6:30 p.m. During the summer months, there is usually no practice. Weekly rehearsals resume in August or September.
The bell team occasionally has a special weekend rehearsal/party, may participate in a local workshop, or attend a stimulating retreat sponsored by the SC ELCA.

ZION|NOIZ is open to youth and adults. The ability to read music helps, but is not necessary.

If you are interested in participating in or supporting ZION|NOIZ, we welcome your inquiry. Please contact the church office at (803) 356-2297 or Michael Kohn at michael.kohn@cjmw.com.
